Support Outward Bound California's
LGBTQ+ Scholarship Fund

This 14-day expedition is designed for LGBTQ+ teens to celebrate and explore their identities, and build community with other LGBTQ+ youth while backpacking in the High Sierra mountain range. Together, they will cultivate self-efficacy through service-learning, leadership development, and self-discovery while exploring granite peaks and alpine lakes.

Our community has already raised enough to fund 2 full-ride scholarships for the LGBTQ+ course for summer 2021! Now, we seek your support to fund an entire crew of 10 LGBTQ+ full scholarship recipients for 2022.  Anchored by a generous $26,600 matching grant from Michael R. Whalen, we seek to raise an additional $53,200 by year-end. We need philanthropic support from our community to continue to grow the accessibility of this course to all eligible participants, regardless of their financial resources.

Help us meet a $26,660 match in order to fully fund next year’s LGBTQ+ expedition! While many teens have experienced being marginalized due to their identity, and/or are exploring their sexual and/or gender identity, YOU can help create a safe space and supportive, unforgettable experience for LGBTQ+ students… regardless of their financial resources.

Meet Eva!

This campaign is piloted by our crew member, Eva (she/they) who will be thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail this summer to raise awareness and scholarship money for Outward Bound California’s LGBTQ+ fund. That’s 2,660 miles Eva will be trekking, to raise $10 per mile.

To learn more about Eva’s odyssey and support her efforts, make an online donation to her fundraising page here.

Eva currently lives in the foggy landscape of the Bay Area. Originally from Colorado, Eva practically grew up with hiking boots on her feet and climbing chalk on her hands. After graduating with a degree in environmental studies, Eva went on to work for Outward Bound in both Colorado and California as a field intern, trip logistics coordinator, and blog writer.
